The new homebuilding market in Central Florida had a strong 2012 — and the best we’ve seen in our area since 2008, according to a new report by Charles Wayne Consulting Inc.
Builders pulled 5,642 permits for new single-family homes last year for Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake, northeast Polk and southwest Volusia counties — 62 percent more than the 3,354 permits pulled in 2011.
Plus, the average sales price for single-family homes grew 6 percent, from $235,800 in 2011 to $250,900 last year.
And there’s plenty more to come. For example, Lennar Homes LLC is seeking approval from Orange County to build a 295-home community in Horizon West. Taylor Morrison Inc. has 75 homes in the works in Heathrow. And DR Horton Inc. has a total of 854 homes planned for Horizon West, Lake Nona and Osceola County’s Toho Preserve.
Plus, there are at least two upscale townhome projects in Longwood and Avalon Park.
